Every so often something pops-up that grabs the attention. In kitchens, most things are variations on a theme but when the new Zaccariotto Kuga kitchen brochure arrived, I liked what I saw. The brochure was sleek, the kitchens were well presented, it looked a very good addition to the already comprehensive range. However it was something else that really caught my eye, a sink fitted one of the kitchens. It seemed to be raised from the worksurface, was it a different colour outside to that which was inside? I needed to know more and so contacted Italy who told me all about it. Research was done and it just became better and better as I learned more. Here was a sink, a tap and a waste system that was different, it deserved the tag of “designer”, so often abused by shoddy products. Someone had designed a sink package that all fitted together: perfectly.
Now as someone who is long in the tooth and seen a few sinks in my time, the last complete redesign of a sink that inspired me was the Franke Compact…..errr, a few decades ago. I love the Kohler Stages and the Karbon tap but this Italian sink even had a waste system designed to fit the sink. It wins on points! So I contacted The Kitchen Sink Company and sent a picture and incredibly they had been approached to become a distributor for this sink and others in the range at almost the same time.
So here it is, the Elleci Dogma sink, or Electrosink as they call it. Yes, it was designed, by Davide Stolfi and Defne Dilber of Rome. Yes, it can be in two colours. The beauty is the electrically operated waste in the side groove of the sink, not a clutter in the base, the electronic tap and like the waste, operated from the front of the sink and a tap that pushes down below the top edge of the sink! The whole area can then be covered by three chopping boards, or two glass covers……oh and there are a few other accessories available if this was not enough.
It looks stunning and has to be in the front window of a showroom, set in a Mezzo glass worktop on a Zaccariotto Kuga kitchen. For photos see,

A new year and a new re-write to www.coraldesigns.co.uk The content has increased, the colour scheme has altered and new glass product has been added. In collaboration with Worktops by Design, new glass splashbacks and worksurfaces are available. This range will expand over the next few months with the addition of laminate and solid surface versions to merge into a very comprehensive product group. During February a new Kitchen Sink Company brochure – price list will be available along with the 2012 Kohler range. At this time, a new to the UK, range of sinks and taps will be made available. To the best of my knowledge, this range contains innovations that are not currently available from any other manufacturer represented in this country. Sneak previews will be here…. http://www.coraldesigns.co.uk/sinks.htm

A very Merry Christmas to all and let’s us hope for a more prosperous New Year in 2012. Thanks to all suppliers and customers for 2011.
New products in the pipeline, new sinks, new suppliers, new solid surface maybe and more suppliers too…..see you in 2012.
The first samples of laminate worktops have arrived. Different surfaces and edges and available in 12mm and 50mm lightweight options. Coupled with the glass tops and wall panels, the range is getting into shape but there could be more to add on in the future.
To add to the glass worktops recently introduced, later this month, a range of laminate tops will be added. These will help all the studios that have showroom displays of Lechner tops in glass or laminate that do not want the upheaval or cost of changing them. Also this month, display stands for the glass range will be available. Contact Coral Designs for more information.
Recently Lechner ag from Germany decided to leave the UK. The sudden decision left many Kitchens and Bathroom retailers with redundant displays. It also meant that Architects, Designers as well as the studios had no way to fulfill their plans, quotations and design briefs. A UK company Worktops By Design, has gone a long way to filling that void. Whilst not all of the glass tops are available, the majority are. This is quite a fast moving situation and a lot more will be announced in the near future. If you are in need of urgent information, help, or have a display in-situ then contact sales@coraldesigns.co.uk to be kept up to date on the product availability.
The re-launch of this product has started very well with two of the original fabricators keen to start again as soon as possible. Contact has been established with a few others and it looks likely that there will be a network in place shortly. Hand in hand with this sample boxes are spreading across the south of the UK. A number of interested studios are planning showroom displays as well as a few surprises……If you want to know more, be quick!
